A medium-to-high intensity workout that varies from week to week, drawing on cardio movements from martial arts, dance, sports and athletic training, incorporating equipment like light weights, bands, balls and ending with 15-20 minutes of concentrated (conscious!) work on the core muscles with a trainer who knows and respects the body.

Muay Thai Foundations

Sign up for Muay Thai Foundations because you are interested in learning or practicing a martial art from ‘the ground up’ in an atmosphere emphasizing Consciousness and Community as well as great form and fitness, you would like to learn how to punch, kick, elbow, knee and use defensive skills, you want to increase your sense of empowerment and physical and mental well-being, you would like to discover and work with habits you may have developed under stress in a safe environment. Because of the range of movements utilized and the skill set involved, Muay Thai can be an extremely intense physical workout, working the cardiovascular system, building and toning muscles, increasing flexibility, sharpening reflexes, improving coordination and training and calming the mind as well.

One-on-one training is also available.

Muay Thai is an effective, graceful and powerful fighting art––interesting and invigorating with no attitude.

We’re focused on developing excellent Muay Thai form, stamina, flexibility, balance and strength and—on a permission-granted basis—developing partner sparring skills. Beginners are welcome to any class, all of which are currently mixed-level.

Each training class starts out with a 3-10 minute cardio warm-up and loosening up, followed by the teaching of Muay Thai skills for that week, then 35-45 minutes of varied Muay Thai kickboxing skills and drills using Thai pads, heavy bags or partner training exercises, moves into about 15-25 minutes of conditioning and strength training for arms/legs/abs/back and ends with stretching for flexibility. Training and conditioning activities change each week, working every part of the body in new ways. Attention in all cases to form, function, and fun.

With over 2 decades of experience training Muay Thai and over a decade of Muay Thai teaching experience, I teach every mixed-level class in a supportive, clean, bright environment. My two decades of experience in Thai medicine and Thai massage also means I have a keen understanding of the body whether you’re dealing with injury, are worried about starting a new activity or are simply trying to improve your body mechanics to build better Muay Thai, Martial Arts or workout habits and form.

My own Muay Thai and Conscious Combat teachers include Greg Nelson, James Cook, Nick Sacoulas, Gavin Van Vlack, Coban Lookchaomaesithong, Ajarn Sirisute Chai, Georgia Verry and various teachers at ANK Santa Fe, where I taught for 11 years. I studied Aikido and comprehensive women’s Self-Defense with Karin Konkle. I am a proud member of the National Women’s Martial Arts Federation.

Crosstraining from the Core

Is a class that brings together cardio movements from martial arts, dance and calisthenics with form-based focus on the core and a functional anatomy to deliver a medium-to-high intensity cardio and strength-training Fitness class infused with emphasis on good anatomical form and fun, supportive community with a knowledgeable, enthusiastic and creative instructor.

Informed by my prodigious experience and knowledge as a Thai massage therapist and Yoga and Conscious Core instructor and my long-time experience as a practitioner and teacher of Muay Thaiboxing, Cardio kickboxing, Conscious Combat as well as a lifetime of fitness and dance training and teaching, you can expect a uniquely varied workout that will help you build strength, flexibility, lean muscle and a relaxed, curious mind.

I also offer a deep understanding of the body. Anatomically, I can almost always understand why or how you are moving habitually and help you move more functionally. On a deeper level of safety and respect, I know our bodies need different things at different times, so you never need to be afraid of coming to class and hurting yourself because you’re pushing in unhelpful ways or think you ‘should be’ something that you aren’t currently.

Combine the focused concentration and care of Conscious Core with the empowering, high intensity movements of martial arts

The class structure is simple—

We begin with a few minutes of simple cardio warm-up, then brief stretching and opening of the joints and body. We follow with about 6-10 high-intensity exercise ‘rounds’ of about 1-5 minutes each which may include calisthenics, running, light weights, punching, kicking, kneeing or elbowing in the air or on the heavy bags. We move into about 15 minutes of concentrated full-body Core work, incorporating arms, legs and back, then end with a few minutes of stretching. That’s it! This class will prepare you for, or complement any other fitness, core, dance, yoga or martial arts training you currently do (or hope to do).

WHEN YOU Find your Core IN CONSCIOUS CORE YOU ALSO

Develop full body stability and rock-solid strength starting from the true core muscles and the pelvic floor

Develop new habits and correct old bad habits to achieve perfect form in your workouts and daily life with respect for the long-term health of your full body and your pelvic floor

Reconnect to the inner foundations of your body.

Multiple options offered for each exercise for safe and effective work at all levels.

I want you to feel strong, functional and aware in stillness and in movement in every direction—lying down, on your side, on hands and knees, kneeling, sitting, standing and in motion. I want your core to be strong and coordinated whether you are moving arms or legs, twisting, bending, reaching or squatting.

Therefore, each class works a variety of movements in a variety of ‘planes’, resulting in a measured and deliberate full body workout each class. While you will work hard, this is not a cardio class. Each class begins with a 5-10 minute focus on coordination of pelvic floor and core muscles, as well as bringing awareness to postural alignment. The next 40 minutes are spent working through movements to strengthen the body and coordinate with the deep core muscles. We end with a few minutes of stretching and relaxation.

What is Conscious Core?

Conscious Core is not a “place” in your body you’re trying to work and these classes are not “45 minutes of abs” where the sole concern is to ‘make you look good’. Nor are these just ‘fitness’ classes taught by someone who loves to work out but may not know anything about anatomy, injury, or pathology. Conscious Core classes specifically and strategically help your body and mind find and strengthen the inner layers of support muscles you have so that you can move from your center into working the rest of the muscles of your body freely and with confidence. It is deliberate in creating this foundation of balance, strength, and support. So whether you’re doing full-body conditioning exercises in class, running, or just trying to roll over in bed with out hurting your back, you are always moving from a position of support.

Conscious Core classes take into account that while your pelvic anatomy is specific to those assigned female at birth, containing those particular organs, muscle attachments and functions, the vast majority of popular sports and exercise approaches we still use were developed by and taught by persons with a pelvic bowl specific to those assigned male at birth, an entirely different physical and physiological center from which to move. Your male counterparts have likely never dealt with a DRA (diastasis recti abdominus—or a ‘split’ in the center of the “6-pack” abdominal muscle) or a ‘poochy belly’; don’t pee themselves when they jump or laugh, or get vaginal prolapses of the internal organs with heavy lifting, childbirth or an unlucky accident. Their breasts aren’t pulling their shoulders forward & straining their ribcages and diaphragms and occasionally impinging their breathing function and they’re not dealing with painful lower abdomens because of fibroids, cysts, eodmetriosis or hormonal fluctuations. It’s time for us to engage a new bodily understanding that allows us to move consciously, joyfully and powerfully, while enjoying and respecting our bodies.

This bodily understanding is the place from which you will able to walk up stairs, jump without peeing & lift without farting. Yes, I just said “fart”! It may also be the support which improves or heals your shoulder, back and hip pain, decreases your DRA and strengthens your belly muscles, helps prevent or manage a prolapse, or just gets you back into, or improves your high-level exercise in a way that actually feels good and is good for you.

Each exercise offered includes several levels of ‘doing’ to accommodate your current state of strength and flexibility, no fancy clothes are required and Emily will get the information on your body’s particular situation so she can use her knowledge and experience to make sure you stay safe and rebuild from where you are today.

Many experiences, clients, training and professionals have influenced me in the creation of these teachings. Crucial to my understanding of the core and the pelvic bowl and of direct effect on the content of these courses are my own direct experiences over the course of several years, with pelvic floor and core dysfunction and my efforts to learn about, work with and rehab from childbirth, PF and Core dysfunction and surgery. Individuals without whom I could not have understood how to move and therefore to teach this work include: Muse Lokijockva of Medicine of the Feminine, Meghan Haid Sterling and Jennifer Gabrys of Making Mom Strong, Tasha Mulligan of Hab-it, Wendy Powell of MuTu System, Lauren Rose and Deb Benenson.

Muay Thai boxing or individualized fitness instruction

Use personal training sessions to get individualized instruction, work on your form and correcting specific imbalances, or to do workouts tailored to your needs and desires, whether you want to seriously intensify your level of cardio and conditioning or you need to slow things way down in order to perfect your form and skills base.

Conscious Core

Use a one-on-one personal Core sessions to get individualized instruction, work on correcting specific imbalances, create a home practice tailored to your needs and desires, figure out how to change daily habits that may be creating pain or imbalance or touch base on specific problems, postures, etc. I can also answer questions about other corrective measures including herbs, natural pessaries for prolapse, helpful therapies, etc. You will leave your first session knowing how to properly engage your core, what habits have been standing in your way, and with a specific set of movements tailored to you and your body.

Schedule your own group class

Instruction, materials and some individual written critique for your group of between 3-8 people. All prices listed are GROUP RATES shared between the members of your group and paid directly to Emily.

Creative writing class structure varies depending on the group and your input is valued, however, with most groups, much of class time is spent writing and sharing, while revision and critique time is largely attended to outside of class. This means you will want to take into account an extra couple of hours per week, in addition to your in class time. All students will receive written feedback from Emily on selected pieces throughout the class period. Exercises to inspire your voice vary greatly, from use of readings, prompts, sensory exercises, found words, experiments with other mediums, etc. Student class packets also include home play to inspire your work outside of class. Students will be expected to bring in work to pass out for helpful (mostly written) critique and to critique others’ work, on a somewhat regular basis, depending on the nature of the group and the amount of time the group has together.

Emily has been a writer for a very long time. She attended the Perpich Center for Arts Education, where she later taught creative writing in the Literary Arts program, as well as specialized units in Media Arts (Film) and Music (Songwriting). She has been a Poetry Slam Coach, an Editiorial Assistant at NYU Press and taught English and History at the Beekman School in Manhattan; English as a Second Language in Barcelona, Spain; and has run Creative Writing workshops at retreat centers, elementary schools, public libraries and for other cultural groups.


Usui Reiki Classes & Karuna Reiki Classes One-on-one, Pairs or Group classes

Schedule a class for yourself, you and a friend, or a group at any level of Usui or Karuna Reiki

These 1:1  or small group classes are tailored to your interests and the ways in which you hope to use or teach Reiki and, as such, can be as simple or quick as learning and being attuned to the new energies at each level (~2ish hours per level), or can include training in a variety of techniques and different ways of using Reiki(~3-6 hrs per level). Masters levels or Teacher training requires more time overall ( about 10-16 hours) but can be broken down into similar-sized learning modules. Emily has been teaching Reiki since 2002 and has taught hundreds of students all levels of Reiki.

Each level includes some materials which are paid for separately, usually coming to an extra $10-$30 per level.

1:1 class-$65/hour. About 2-4 hours per level.

Pairs class: (2 people) $90/hour ($45/each) about 3.5-4.5 hours.

Small group class: (3-6 people) $175/per person for a 5-6 hour class day. Master levels require 2-3 of these class days.

Usui Reiki One: 

(no pre-req)

Healing in and of itself, the 'attunement' you receive in Reiki One opens you to a beautiful healing energy that can be used on its own, or with any other work you may already do; on the self, or with others. Your Reiki One attunement never 'runs out' or needs to be re-done. The skills you will learn in this class will help you work with this new energy with curiosity and confidence and can be combined with any other modality or use on it's own.

Usui Reiki One class content includes:

  • History and Uses of Reiki

  • Scanning and Beaming techniques

  • Sensitivity training and intuitive listening

  • Basic and ‘Extra’ treatment positions for full body treatment on the self and others

  • Chair treatments

  • “Sandwich” treatments

Usui Reiki Two: 

(pre-req: Usui Reiki One)

Usui Reiki Two class content includes:

Attunement to 3 new healing energies, or frequencies! You will expand your approach to healing treatments and depth of your energy, as well as your ability to work with healing across space and time with the Power symbol, Mental/Emotional symbol and Distance healing symbol

We will focus on various frequency uses and specific treatment approaches, including treatments for:

  • Empowering affirmations

  • Healing unwanted habits

  • Chakra clearing and balancing

  • Rebirth and past events healing

  • Group healing

  • Space clearing

  • Intention creation and empowerment

  • Creating reiki talismans

  • Cutting psychic cords

  • + Many more distance techniques!

 Usui Reiki Practitioner Master or Usui Reiki Teaching Master

(pre-req: Usui Reiki One & Two):

Original techniques of Dr. Usui + tried and true approaches developed & tested by Reiki Masters over the years to heal & teach w/Reiki!

This class is for those who have completed Reiki 1 & 2 and/or Masters wishing to learn more techniques for using, teaching & attuning to Reiki.

Both Masters/Teaching Masters will be attuned to 8 symbols (3 from RII) which can be used in treatments & attunements & everyone receives the Master book + packet.

Everyone will learn how to do Healing Attunements (for treatment purposes), Aura Clearing, Psychic Surgery, 3 Reiki Master Meditations & healing techniques from Dr. Usui’s original handbooks. You’ll learn ways to work with crystals & set up your own Antahkarana (continuous distance healing grid) and increase your awareness & intuition.

Those on the teacher track will also receive teaching packets for each level of Reiki, filled with wonderful techniques for using, describing & teaching with Reiki. We’ll talk business & answer any latent Reiki questions. You’ll practice level attunements & review & present material from all levels of Reiki so that you’ll feel prepared to teach Reiki.

Karuna Reiki

Karuna Reiki is essentially translated as "Enlightenment and Compassion in Action" and is associated with many extremely strong angelic and heart-focused energies. It is the "whizz-bang" of Reiki and gets to the heart of the matter quickly, directly and tenderly. The Karuna system is totally complementary to, yet different than the Usui system. It has four main parts: Karuna One, Karuna Two and Karuna Master One and Karuna Master Two.

 

Karuna Reiki One:

(pre-req: Usui Reiki One and Two)

Karuna Reiki One attunes you to four new energy frequencies, each with it's own particular purpose and feel, all of which can be used with Usui Reiki, or on their own.

One of the interesting and big differences from Usui, is that Karuna energies are specific--in their purpose and their feel--usable on their own and immediately applicable. With Karuna One you will immediately be able to give Karuna treatments, weave the energies into your Usui, or other healing treatments, and can absolutely promise your clients you will be offering them amazing new healing tools they will feel (and you will too), that will make a difference in their healing process.

I take a very experiential approach to Karuna classes--you each have a chance to receive and experience the new energies separately and record and compare your responses to them, without knowing "what they're for"; in addition to working with specific Karuna meditations visualizations and techniques, so you really get the understanding and feel of the energies on a deep level.

 

Karuna Reiki Two:

(pre-req: Karuna Reiki One)

Karuna Two brings in another four frequencies, along with further meditations to connect with developing chakras in the auric and etheric realm and more work with chanting and toning as healing methods. Also very experiential and even more specific.

 

Karuna Reiki Master:

(pre-req: Karuna Reiki Two)

Four more energy frequencies, along with practice doing specific Karuna Reiki attunements and meditations fill out your energy toolkit and prepare you to teach Karuna to others as well!


Disconnection from the Collective Shadow & Cellular Activation Workshop One-on-one, Pairs or Group class

Schedule a class for yourself, you and a friend, or a group to take your Practitioner training in DCS or CA.

This practitioner training generally takes 12 hours and costs $375 per person.

A separate fee for the manual costs $75.00

This class gets you deeply in touch with different aspects of the energetic and etheric fields as well as helpful guides who make it easier to work in these realms and includes specific protocols and techniques for helping to clear out the past and ‘upgrade’ to lighter, brighter, easier energies, making life and life work flow more happier and joyfully.
